O.C. Spray Training
Officers are taught the basic contents of O.C. spray, commonly referred to as Mace, the effects O.C. spray has on most people, and when and how to deploy the O.C. spray properly. Officers are given the option of being exposed during class, so they will be able to deal with the effects if they are ever accidentally sprayed. They are taught how to handle and treat a suspect who has been exposed to O.C. spray.
Medical Training
First Aid and CPR courses are offered to our officers so they can assist in emergency medical situations. The materials are taught through a video presentation, and then the officers participate in hands-on skills training; this affords them insight into the decision-making processes required in emergency situations. In order to gain certification, officers must demonstrate competency in all skills and pass a written test.
